Windows 7 SP1 Fix Available for USB Audio Devices That Stop Playing
Some users have experiencing issues with USB audio devices connected to computers running Windows 7 RTM or Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
Microsoft confirmed the problems officially, indicating that customers will know they’re impacted by the glitch if audio stops playing when a USB audio device is in use.
“When you use a USB audio device to play audio on a computer that is running Windows 7, the USB audio device stops playing audio after some time,” the Redmond company said.
The software giant has not revealed just how long a USB audio device needs to be connected to the computer for this issue to occur, but undoubtedly, users will know when something is wrong.
Still, the source of the problem has already been identified, and there is a way for users to make sure that it doesn’t happen again.
“The issue occurs because the USB audio device is reset incorrectly when there is a missed microframe error. Therefore, the audio stream is interrupted and stops playing,” Microsoft said.
The glitch doesn’t seem to be generalized, and this is why Microsoft is not providing an update or an automated fix designed to resolve it.
Instead, a hotfix is available for download from Microsoft Help and Support. Users need to first make their way to KB 2484031, and only then can they get the hotfix.
However, this particular fix is not available to the public. “The KB article has no public hotfixes. Please contact support if you need immediate assistance,” the company informs. Users will need to contact Microsoft Support either by mail or phone in order to get access to the hotfix.
It’s important to note that they first need to make sure they indeed need the hotfix, and that they’re running Windows 7 or Windows 7 SP1.
